Matthew and The Arrogant Sea is an indie rock band born in Denton, Texas, quietly shaping its own corner of the world for more than two decades. Founded and led by Matthew Gray, the group first emerged nationally in 2009 and has since built a body of work that feels less like a catalog and more like a living archive of moments.

Their sound drifts between indie rock, folk, and something harder to name, carried by Gray’s unmistakable voice and a tendency to chase feeling over form. It’s music that lingers, unfolding slowly, revealing itself over time.

The current lineup features Matthew Gray, Blake Vickrey, Hagen Hauschild, Pablo Alzate, and Lauren Upshaw, whose presence has brought a new energy into the fold, both on stage and within the band’s evolving spirit.

Known for immersive and transportive live performances, Matthew and The Arrogant Sea create moments that feel fleeting and unforgettable, leaving rooms changed in subtle, lasting ways.

A new chapter is already underway. A record, yet to be announced, waits just beyond the horizon. The first single arrives this spring, with the full release to follow in the summer.

Matthew and The Arrogant Sea continues forward without urgency, guided by instinct, time, and the quiet understanding that not everything is meant to be explained.
